Since I have full control I can install anything I want and host whatever I want on my server. If I were on a shared host I would have been kicked out, not to mention instead of my customers telling me they like the speed of the downloads they would be mad because the speed would be a lot slower on a shared host. One thing that alot of clients DO NOT realise though is that with dedicated servers, comes maintenance and if they cannot maintain a server themselves they need to pay someone to do it for them. Sure, a dedicated server can be $100 a month or $500 per month but you need to pay someone at least $250 per month to manage the server for you and thats just for patching security etc. Dedicated servers are not for people on low budgets really.
