Today almost every web hosting provider offers support for PHP. However if you do not know for sure if your web host offers PHP, there is very easy way to find out.

With your favorite text editor (such as Notepad) create a new document then copy and paste following line of code into the document you have just created:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

Save the file and name it phpinfo.php and upload it via FTP to the root for your domain. Then point your browser to that file (should be something like www.yourdomain.com/phpinfo.php).

If your web host offers PHP your browser should open a page that will tell you the version of PHP as well as some configuration info.

If your browser opens a blank page your web host may not be offering support for PHP or it is not enable for your particular account. You should then call your web hosting provider to find out for sure.

According to Webmaster Central Blog web hosting providers can begin to use Google’s API for such purpose.
The first web hosting provider to ever offer this sort of thing was Go Daddy.

Using the Google Webmaster Tools can be very beneficial in your efforts to make your website more visible on Google. It provides some very important statistics along with potential problems a website may have that may prevent it from being regularly crawled and indexed.

I have been lately on the roll revamping this blog but along the way I have managed to miss out on some things that are most important to me and visitors to this blog. I always look for allowing visitors to easily comment on this website. However, I am also extremely diligent in fighting spam. For than purpose there are several plugins installed here. Unfortunately one of them has been acting strange and there were at least several visitors unable to leave the comments. The plugin in question was the one that asked you to answer a simple math question to verify that you were a real person and not some automated bot. The plugin did save me a lot of time that otherwise I would spend sifting through the spam comments.

Unfortunately no plugin is worth keeping if it prevents visitors to comment here. Today I have deactivated the math plugin. I sincerely apologize to every one who had attempted to comment here in the past but could not, I know how frustrating that can be. If you can please try to comment or submit your reviews now.

Newly introduced Windows dedicated plans by Easy CGI Web Hosting offers whooping 2 (two) terabytes of monthly bandwidth. Here is a part of a press release from May 12 announcing the two new plans:

The two new plans, Dedicated X10 and Dedicated X20, offer 100 and 200 gigabytes of disk space, respectively, two and four gigabytes of RAM, and two terabytes of bandwidth per month.

Significantly, all of Easy CGI’s dedicated VPS plans guarantee a limited number of virtual servers for each hardware node, something few other hosting services do. By limiting the number of virtualization clients, each client is assured of a greater share of processor time, RAM, and disk space.

“Customers clearly want more server capability such as more disk storage and memory,” says Dan Richfield, President of Easy CGI, “We’ve always prided ourselves on being flexible about delivering what our customers want.”

Dedicated X10 plan comes with a tag price of $143.96 per month while Dedicate X20 will set you back $223.96 per month. Easy CGI offers equivalent Linux hosting plans at the same price.

If you have used Easy CGI in the past or are using it currently, I would love to hear your feedback. You can leave your review and rate Easy CGI here.

LiquidWeb’s Support.
While my first encounter with LiquidWeb was over the problems with down time other bloggers had, since then I have heard nothing but good things about LiquidWeb. Travis Stoliker of LiquidWeb, deserves credit and admiration for trying to keep the communication lines open even when faced with the criticism. It is hard to find people like him with other web hosting providers. Liquid Web’s Heroic Support® provides year around access to level 3 engineers via phone or e-mail.

If you have used or are using LiquidWeb as your web hosting provider feel free to leave your feedback and reviews. Click here to visit LiquidWeb.

Over the last several weeks I have embarked on mission to make serious improvements around this blog. I hopes to attract more reviews with a new rating widget, I am now acknowledging every one who took time to review their web hosting provider in a “thank you post” at the end of the week. But there were a few things that needed major updates, which partially where accomplished today.

About Page Updated

The update to “About” page was long over due, in the light of the fact that this blog is now three years old. The About page is not also includes disclosures as well as comments and privacy policies.

Advertising Page

On average, I receive about 10 emails each weeks from potential advertisers inquiring about advertising opportunities on this blog. While I am trying to respond to each email in attempt to find out each potential advertiser’s need, only 1 of every 20 emails is a serious requests. To save myself some time, I have created Advertise on Web Hosting Review Blog page, to which I will be referring most of the advertising request I receive in the e-mail.

Contact Page

Instead of publishing my e-mail as I did in the past, which resulted in being placed on hundreds of “lists” I have decided to streamline all attempts to contact me via contact page.

Link Us Up Page

Link us up is nothing but a shameless attempt to ask other webmasters to link to back to this blog. I am not looking for links on “fashion” websites and blogs. But if you write a blog related to web hosting and link to me chances are I will most certainly acknowledge your efforts in one of my posts.

Reaching Out To Publishers

While attempting to develop long lasting relationships with potential advertisers, I will also intensify advertising for this blog. While I am currently running several PPC campaigns for this blog I am looking to increase the “brand awareness” for this blog via direct advertising on potential publisher’s websites or blogs. If you think your visitors can benefit from information found on this blog, please drop me a line, I do not mind to support your blog as sponsor or advertiser.

Intensified Posting

One of the things that will definitely change on this blog in the coming days and weeks is the frequency of posting. Until now, the posts on this blog where some what sporadic. At times months had passed on and no post where published here. It is about to change. To start of I plan to post 2-4 posts per week, not including “thank you” posts to acknowledge your reviews. So if web hosting industry interests you, feel free to subscribe so you do not miss my future posts.

This past week May 4-7 was some what slower comparing to the week before. However there were two reviews submitted by visitors to this blog. So I would would like to say thank you and a huge shout out to:

Josh Spaulding of Internet Marketing with Josh Spaulding. Josh has reviewed Hostmoster and you can read his review here. Josh had also mentioned he now uses as he calls it “the best web host in the world” LiquidWeb as his host, unfortunately there is no Liquidweb’s profile on my blog, but I hope that Josh will come back to tells us about his experience. I have briefly mentioned on my blog Mark’s trouble with LiquidWeb, and it would be great to have more balanced picture as far as LiquidWeb is concerned.

Brian W of Pennsylvania Backwoods. Brian offered his feedback on Bluehost, and you can read his review here.

Gentlemen, thank you so much for taking your time and providing great feedback and sharing your experience.

If you are just stopping by my blog for the first time, review your web hosting provider and I will link back to you next Saturday. Please refrain from one sentence only type for reviews and feedback. And no you do not have to be way to technical, just follow the example of Josh and Brian.

Hope every one has a great weekend.

It has been a while since the latest versions (2.5 and now 2.5.1) of WordPress were released. But did you upgrade your version yet? While installation of WordPress is on of the easiest out there. But after you begin toying around with your website, adding new plugins and maybe modifying some parts of your template, upgrading to the new version is not always an attractive idea. You don’t know whether or not your theme will work with the latest version, nor there is certainty your plugins will continue to work. So many of us make a painful decisions to hang on to outdated versions as long as we can. So today I would like to outline some benefits of why you should consider to keep your WordPress up to date. While this article is written in the light of the latest version (2.5.1) of WordPress, some of the points may still apply to no matter what version your are hanging onto.

Security Fixes. Generally WordPress updates patches the wholes as far a security of your website is concerned. If you don’t want to do it for yourself, you should consider your regular readers and visitors.

General Improvements. Since powering this blog by WordPress almost with every major upgrade, there was an improvement in WordPress functionatily.

WordPress 2.5.1 makes it easy to upgrade your plugins. So much so that you can perform them with just a single click without need of downloading and uploading the newest versions of plugins you use on your blog.

Media Files. WordPress 2.5.1 hd improved dramatically how you upload and manage your media files: pictures, video files and audio files.

WordPress 2.5.1 had dramatically improve the “behavior” of WYSIWYG editor, in a way that it is not screwing up your code ans it did in previous versions. For example if you needed to embed a video from YouTube, you had to turn the WYSIWYG editor off in your profile setting while working on the post containing the video. Now you it is enough to just switch to HTML editor right in post editing window.

While all these improvements are great, there are still plenty of challenges users of WordPress are faced with. Particularly if you have never upgraded your WordPress before or need to do it by uploading your own files via FTP protocol. While many web hosting providers offer Fatastico script to install and upgrade your word press, the only how that is keeping up with providing the latest upgrade via Fantastico is Lunarpages. Other web hosts seam to be a little behind on keeping up with the latest versions of scripts available through Fantastico. Of course few hosts, Bluehost, Hostmonster and Fastdomain, have implemented SimpleScripts, allowing users to upgrade to the newest version of WordPress within hours of the release of upgrades.

If you have never upgraded your WordPress before, there is a good resource just for that for that on WordPress.org.

Since announcing new rating system following web hosting providers where reviewed by the visitors to this blog: Lunarpages, Omins and Aplollo Web Hosting. The total of six visitors have reviewed these web hosting providers, so I would like say thank you to every one of them:

Mark Taslimi of Esh.net
Lonnie of China on TV
Jeff Miller of Closing Videos
Chris Atkins of Linguesmex.com
Dawna Avery of Visual Testaments

Your feedback is what makes this website of mine great. There is very little value in what I provide on this website, which just basic information about web hosting providers. Your reviews and feedback is far more valuable. So I thank you for taking time and reviewing your web hosts and wish you much success in your respective businesses.

If you would like to to be thanked in the similar way all you need to do is to review your web hosting provider, if of course it is featured on this website. If your web host is not on your list, I will be happy to add it to the list. If you have previously reviewed your web hosting provider on this website, feel free to review it again as things may have changed. It may be that your had a poor impression of your web host initially, yet over the time they have improved their services. Or it may be all around.

To be featured in one of “thank you” posts, your review should contain more than just “I love this provider” or “This provider sucks”. While both positive and negative reviews are welcomed here, I will look suspiciously at shallow comments made just in attempt to gain a link to your website.

Thanks again to the most recent reviewers!

In order to serve the visitors better by providing more value several changes were implemented to this website. But before I begin to write about these changes, I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one without whom this website couldn’t exist. Who are they? Every one whose curiosity ever lead to this website. Subscribers. And most importantly those who have commented on this website, leaving invaluable feedback about web hosting providers.

New Rating System

In order to provide visitors to this blog with a more effective way to leave their feedback about web hosting providers, Review Plugin was installed and hacked in such a way that it will allow to rate any of the web hosting providers listed in the side bar. This rating will be collected on 1 through 10 scale. If you decide to give a particular web hosting provider it would mean that you had received absolutely best service. The rating widgets are just about the comment text box.

The votes will be displayed in the post next to the thumbnail of the web hosting provider’s website:

Rate Your Web Host And Receive A Link To Your Website Or Blog

I always have been always strong proponent of No-Nofollow movement among bloggers. For a long time I had a plugin on my blog that removed “nofollow” attributes from links in the comments but lately I became some what antisocial, as far as this blog is concerned. The amount of spam this blog is receiving lately is mind boggling. I felt that I had no choice but to re-introduce “nofollow” to my blog.

I will however continue to reward readers of this blog, in particular those who leave feedback about their web hosting provider. I will link back to their blogs or websites once a week on my “end of the week thank you posts”. I reserve the freedom to choose the anchor text and the page on your website should I decide to reward you with a deep link. I do however have only one request- please use your first name.

Trying to game this blog with rich anchor text will only hurt your chances, from now on I will mar such comments as spam.

Spread The Word About This Post- Receive A Site Wide Link

It is my attempt to revive the community spirit around this blog and without you I can’t do it. Every one who links to this post will receive a site wide link from the sidebar of this blog. This offer is not valid for “splogs”, websites that promote pornography or anything illegal.

Feel free to use the comments to tell me about your link.

If you are BlueHost’s customer, by now you may have received an email informing you that a new way of installing variety of web applications is now available for you- Simple Scripts:

What is Simple Scripts? Think of Fantastico Installer, which allowed you to install scripts that ended up powering your websites in just few clicks and under five minutes. Simple Scripts, a brain child of BlueHost, allows you to do the same. The difference is that Simple Scripts has the most up to date installations for WordPress, Joomla and many other similar applications. Keeping up to date some of these scripts on your website is crucial. Take for example Technorati’s recent raid against spam. For users who are not accustomed to upload the updates via FTP, generally meant waiting several weeks for the new version to be reflected in Fantastico. By that time a newer version of the script was already released. Now clients of BlueHost, Hostmonster and FastDomain web hosting providers can have the latest updates within hours instead of weeks.

Matt Heaton announcing the Simple Scripts several days ago, had mentioned that although application is originally launched on Blulehost it is a self hosted application and that any web hosting provider can license it and use it for the benefits of their users.

I have tried to install WordPres using Simple Scripts, and it worked faster and more efficient than Fantastico scripts. However, Simple Scripts doesn’t seem to recognize the (previous) installations made with Fantastico. I did not attempt any upgrades of such installation for the fear of deleted or damaging existing databases. It would be wise if creators of Simple Scripts would write a guide of how to make this transition for Fantastico to Simple Scripts.

The new solution looks very attractive and it will not be a big surprise if other web hosting providers do not jump at opportunity to provide their clients with the latest possible applications and scripts.

For quiet some time I have promoted on this two online communities BumpZee and BlogCatalog. Today the widget showing the latest visitors were removed. This was done simply because I am not active on this blog and write here very sporadically. It is very unlikely that I will ever build a substantial community around this blog. I do think that many of the information found here is useful and therefore this blogs will continue it life for another year.

In the past to encourage commenting on this blog, a dofollow plugin was installed. The drawback of it was that this blog ended on every possible spam list imaginable. The “comment monkeys” (aka spammers) had really taken advantage of clean SEO friendly links from this blog when leaving comments, while some who truly contributed to this blog with their well thought reviews did not even bother to leave a link to their website. While I always been strong supporter in favor of removing “nofollow” from the comments on blogs, it should only be done on blogs diligently monitored. Otherwise a blog may become spammers paradise. To prevent that, the “nofollow” attributes yet again are implemented on this blog.

Apparently Yahoo! Small Business hosting is trying to catch up with the rest of the web hosting industry. Today, email was send out with the list of exiting features:

Unlimited disk space, so you can forget about running out of room for your web site.

Unlimited bandwidth (data transfer) to support even the most complex multimedia site.

Unlimited email storage, so you never have to worry about deleting messages to free up room for more.

Free Yahoo! Site Solution design tool, which helps you create great web sites quickly and painlessly — even if it’s your first time.

The Site builder is one of the most noticeable improvement, besides increase in hosting space and bandwidth. However if you are and advanced webmaster and would like to have a little more control over your website, Yahoo! Small Business Hosting still can do a little more:

.htaccess (Hypertext Access)
The name .htaccess refers to the main configuration file for Apache, a popular open-source HTTP server. The .htaccess file can be used to create custom error pages and web page redirects, set up password protection, enable SSI, and more. Yahoo! does not currently allow you to upload .htaccess files to your account. For other customization options, we recommend the Custom Error Pages and password-protection features available in your Web Hosting Control Panel. - Yahoo! Small Business Help

Still the unlimited hosting space and bandwidth are huge improvements. If you have used or are currently using Yahoo! Small Business Hosting feel free to share with the rest of us what is your impression of this provider.

This of course is not a solution for every webmaster. If one website is all you have, there is no other way but trust your web hosting provider to manage DNS for your domain name. However if you are launching a major product that stability of other websites may depend on, you should definitely look into managing DNS by yourself. Here is Mark’s entertaining yet extremely educational video:

From the very beginning of this website I have used WP-Polls plugin to collect the votes on web hosting providers featured on this site. After considerable amount of feedback I have decided to introduce a new way to let you cast your votes for your favorite or maybe not so favorite web hosting provider. So if you think you have the best ever web host give them 5 stars, if you think a web host is a ripoff 1 star should express your vote. Of course you are always welcomed to elaborate in the comments your on your web host. Ok here it is the new system to collect the votes:

Go ahead try it!

It simple and straightforward. Try it out and see for yourself. If you have cast your votes on this blog in the past, you can help me by voting again using the new system. I plan to take it down two weeks from now.

If you have any other ideas how I can improve this website feel free to sound them off in the comments.

Bluehost has just recently modified (upgraded) their web hosting plan. The new plan increased the disk space increased to 1,500 GB while the monthly bandwidth was bumped to a whooping 15,000 BG. There are some other good updates.

But I am sure many of you have asked themselves well I bought my web hosting with blue host two months ago. Will these changes apply to my existing account? As far as Hosting Space and traffic are concerned, it appears that Bluehost generally offers these upgrades to the existing clients. This website was is hosted with Bluehost and I have seen several of such upgrades. Even though my website has never gone over the original bandwidth offered by Bluehost two years, every time Bluehost upgraded the amount of bandwidth and hosting space it was reflected in the cPanel of my account.

The only part that my account maybe out of date is the amount of domains that I can host. It appears that I am allowed to host only 5 additional domains with the Bluehost. I had not have a chance to test it whether or not that is true or some sort of cPanel glitch that still shows outdated information.

I presume at the time of renewal of this account I will have a better ground to stand on should I need to question the ability to host “unlimited” domains in my account. However since the renewal is due in 155 days, I have plenty of time to test the Bluehost’s willigness to work with their clients. So stay tunned for the updates by subscribing to my blog. If you have sued Bluehost in the past please leave your review here.

The idea behind this website was very simple one. Offering just basic information about web hosting providers and leaving the reviews in the hands of the visitors looked very attractive. However when this website was born (in August of 2006) only negative reviews were “puring” in. It was hard to decide on whether or not keeping all of the bad reviews on this website or try to some how filter the valid complains from the comments by the people who have nothing better to do. It may ave been against my best judgment, but initially I have decided to leave all the reviews. There was no clear way telling apart valid complaints and rants by the dissatisfied customers from the rest of the negative review. However over the time I have discovered certain pattern in how these negative reviews were written. It appears that authors of negative reviews can be divided in following three groups:

Some times clients bad experience with a particular web hosting provider from the very beginning. This dissatisfaction is never a result of one particular thing. Generally it is a combination of things that transpire from time they have committed to a particular plan. It may not necessarily mean that a particular web hosting provider is terrible. Even the best web hosting providers are not without faults. However if you seen an overwhelming amount of complaints against one particular provider, it should serve as warning light to investigate further before committing your money.

More than often negative reviews would come from clients who in general were satisfied with the web hosting service they received. However they did not have the best experience when they have attempted to solve a problem with their web hosting provider. A company may offer a web hosting that is not reliable. But a company may as well be shooting itself in the foot, by offering bad customer service or by not offering one at all. More than one dissatisfied client will be very happy to hear that his web host is doing all that can be done to fix the problem.

Finally this website have seen plenty of “grasshoppers”. The leave both negative or positive reviews just because they have an opportunity to leave a link. Elsewhere these are called spammers, but my fancy prefers “grasshoppers”. These comments do not stand a chance from being deleted from this blog. While I am sure I have missed one or two, I hope the readers of this blog can recognize these “grasshoppers” point them out to me.

I know that the above list is very general, but I believe it provides some good insight into the negative reviews you find here on this blog, or on other websites that offer opportunity to every visitor to leave feedback.

So what should you make off the negative reviews? It is important to place them in the proper prospective. Some complaints may not be valid at all in your situation. For example, you can see more than one complain that certain web hosts have CPU usage issues on the websites that powered by PHP and MySQL. While some clients may see at as a problem, for some it may not be an issue since they will code their website in good old HTML.

Should you then ignore the negative reviews? Absolutely not, because you can benefit greatly from them. What you need to do is to write an itemized list of all the features you are looking for in your future web hosting provider. Having such a list you can look and see how many negative complains a particular web hosting provider received against each item in your list. Bad web hosting reviews can indeed prove to be very beneficial if you know how to use them.

Today every web hosting provider that offers Fantastico Scripts gives you an opportunity to install WordPress among other content management systems. WordPress being one of the most popular blogging platform often draws a lot of criticism.

Today I came across a video made by Mark from 45n5 entitled WordPress Sucks. Needless to say I had to respond to Mark’s video. If you have never seen Marks blog before I highly recommend to subscribe to his blog. Mark never ceases to amuse, entertain and educate his readers.

Being an outstanding programmer many of the points in his video are quiet valid. However I would like to respond to his video and point out one feature that I have problems with TypePad. My beef with TypePad is about the way it handles trackbacks. One of the things that I came to appreciate blogging is the ability to contribute to conversation. Marks post had received over 50 comments. Although I have not commented on his blog, I feel I am contributing to the conversation nevertheless. Unfortunately visitors of to Mark’s post are not aware of my contribution. Who or what is at fault? I think TypePad and its ways to handle pingbacks/trackbacks.

I say TypePad sucks more than WordPress. What do you say?

Anyway here is Mark’s video:

So you are ready to host your WordPress blog on your own domain and you are in search to find out whether or not Bluehost is the right web host for you? You have come to a right place. This review however is far from being unbiased since this very blog, which is powered by WordPress, is hosted with Bluehost. In this article I will review some important elements of setting your WordPress blog: installation, updates and performance.

Installing WordPress with Bluehost. Bluehost offers installation script called Fantastico Installer, which enables you to install quickly and easily wide verity of scripts, content management systems and blog and forum platforms. With Bluehost WordPress is among those scripts available for easy installation via Fantastico Installer. If you are advanced user and feel no need to use Fantasctico Installer to set up your WordPress blog, Bluehost allows you to do that also. Using Fatastico you can install your WordPress on Bluehost in well under 10 minutes. UPDATE: BlueHost has recently introduced SimpleScripts, which similarly to Fantastico allows you to install scripts on your website, however with SimpleScripts Blue Host now offers updates to the latest versions within minutes of the releases.

Updating WordPress Installation with Bluehost. While Fantastico is an easy and probably the fastest way to install your WordPress, it is not true when it comes to updating to a newest version. As you may know, WordPress updates it’s versions quiet frequently, while providing some important security fixes and enhancing the platform in general. It takes few weeks for Bluehost to offer the update via Fantastico script. And if you are concerned about security risks or would like to get your hands on the newest version of WordPress as soon as it becomes available, you will need to install the updates by uploading the new files via FTP protocol to your server. Doing so, you need to read carefully the upgrade instructions and take the necessary steps to prevent the loss of your data.

WordPress performance on BlueHost. You should expect decent performance from “out of the box” WordPress installation. However some bloggers, including myself, reported CPU overload problems with WordPress that has number of plugins installed. Some of the plugins perform what can be called as a “heavy lifting” in order to accomplish certain things. Generally those plugins have to do with comments on your blog. For example, on this blog a plugin is installed that reverse the order in which comments are displayed- the newest comments are displayed first. Of course if there is only few comments on a particular post, it may not present a huge problem. The more comments, the more work plugin needs to perform- potentially increasing the CPU usage and event CPU overload. The good thing about BlueHost is that when CPU overload takes place, the access to your website is suspended only for a few minutes. Other hosting providers may suspend your account for a longer period of time or until the problem associated with CPU overload is fixed. Whenever you are installing additional plugins, widgets or third party scripts on your blog it is worth keeping an eye on your blog performance. And try to fix the problems as your detect them.

Bluehost is an excellent web host for your WordPress powered blog or website. However even the best web hosting providers do have some quirks. It would be in your own best interest to research well your potential web hosting provider before deciding on where to host your WordPress.

(PRWEB) December 28, 2007 — www.BroadbandChoices.co.uk today announces the ISP heavy hitters that delivered the most consistent broadband speeds in 2007. Download speed has been an area of much debate in the broadband market throughout 2007, with many ISPs simply not delivering the promised download performance.

A report by consumer group, Which? earlier this year found a "huge" gap between publicised broadband speeds and what most users actually received, with the average speed "enjoyed" by customers on 8Mb packages being as low as 2.7Mb.

Michael Phillips, product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, said: "Connections get degraded the further away they are from the BT exchange. Factors like this and poor quality wiring significantly degrade broadband connections and reduce the available speed. It's simply not possible for every customer to get the advertised speed. Our speed test show that, on average, customers only receive 35 per cent of the promised speed."

Any business of almost any kind needs to be on the internet today to be taken seriously. While this is just another cost of business lost in the huge budgets of major companies, for a small business it may represent a major expense and one that must be carefully allocated as economically as possible. One way to decrease website expense is the use of web hosting.

The advantages of web hosting can be substantial for the small or medium size business, but there are also some risks and disadvantages to consider. By definition, web hosting involves a third party in your business, so you want to choose very carefully. Have a less than reputable or ethical hosting company could cause you problems.

For example, one thrifty form of web hosting is the shared domain, where the provider partitions a server into sections and companies have their own little piece of the server with a unique name, but really part of one domain. These tend to be the least expensive, and cost is one of the primary advantages of web hosting, and as such a boon to small, cash-poor companies and new start ups.

The disadvantage is that you have no control over who is sharing that space with you. If one of the other users is a crook running a scam, or an unethical marketer spewing e-mail spam to unhappy victims, the whole domain may be blacklisted or blocked by others. You could be perfectly ethical and honest, but your site would be labeled as undesirable along with the real violators. Be very careful about rules domain providers make and how well they enforce them.

Another of the advantages of web hosting is a saving in the costs of hardware, equipment, and its maintenance. Since the hosting company has the servers and will be responsible for repair and replacement, you don’t have to bother or put out the cash. The disadvantage is that if they are slow with repairs or don’t upgrade outdated equipment your site may bog down or even go offline.

There are advantages of web hosting in reducing staff costs as well. You don’t need to hire someone to manage the equipment or trouble shoot problems when they occur. IT support personnel do not come cheap, so this can be a huge savings to the smaller company. The disadvantage is no control at all over the qualifications of the people the hosting company does hire, and uncertainty about how much of the time they will be available or how fast they will respond.

A business will need to consider whether or not the advantages of web hosting currently outweigh the disadvantages. At some point, it may be preferable and more feasible to host and maintain a site internally, but in the beginning, web hosting can mean the difference in being able to have a web presence or not, and should at least be considered.
