IPower is affordable, for the first year – then they double the cost of your hosting plan. Not uncommon in shared hosting, but worth mentioning.

IPower claims unlimited storage, but has a clause in its terms of us that lets them delete any of your content they see fit if they deem you using their server as “storage”. This is usually arbitrary and happens whether people are actively viewing the files you load or not. Again not uncommon in shared hosting, but they cut you off much earlier than hosts like GoDaddy, Dreamstime, Bluehost, and HostMonster – with much less warning.

IPower accepts extremely high server response times as normal. This means that its not uncommon for it to take up to 5-10 seconds for their servers to even begin to load the website you created using their hosting – particularly if you use anything that requires MySQL – like a blog or forums. (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla etc)

IPower phone support is based out of India and often drops your call (sometimes at what seem like suspiciously opportune times for the technician). They will not transfer you to a superior or an alternate phone support consultant if you have a hard time understanding their accent or are unsatisfied with how they are handling your request. Its not uncommon to be hung up on if you are persistent (even if you remain polite, and professional).

IPower technical support team members do not read previous portions of any ticket submitted through the help console either, and simply validate that they can pull up your website at all, resolve/close the ticket, and move on. Technical support beyond this, for things like extremely slow load times, any email problems you might have, domain issues, are all almost nil – unless you keep reopening/replying to the ticket repeatedly.

I had set up several accounts through IPower (on behalf of different clients) and each had entirely different information – except for the administrative contact who set up the account. I am constantly receiving mishandled billing and technical support because the IPower team can’t keep them separated. I ask about one account’s current billing information, and receive info about another one. I ask them to check an account’s website load time, and they reply that a different account’s site is loading adequately. (Also consistently closing the ticket and requiring me to reopen it each time).

If you cancel the service you will only receive a prorated refund (and that’s only if you are very, very persistent) – so you will be out the cost of however long it took you to handle the tickets related the to the problem that made you decide to cancel the service in the first place.

Furthermore you’ll receive spam from their sales team for up to 1 year after your account has been “terminated” – and note that when they terminate an account, they still keep your information on file indefinitely. They just stop billing you (if you’re lucky and they don’t mix up your billing support with someone else’s).

Ultimately this is a deceitful host that uses maligned up-sell strategies to garner the business of the uninformed, and then leaves them to fend for themselves once they’ve paid.

So far decent alternatives I have found are Bluehost, Site5, and (for a few extra dollars) MediaTemple. Wordpress.org has a list of decent ones too – same with Drupal and Joomla.

    Best of luck out there.

Dont use this service, they are shady with their billing, advertise sales and then in checkout, change prices and add hidden fees and you dont even get to review your order before processing credit card!
then they send you in circles with bs tickets to resolve the issue with outsourced tech and billing support, which is a complete joke, and wont refund errors they make in billing. the webhosting is very expensive after the sale ends….way overpriced for the crap they provide. terrible terrible customer service and ethics, scam artists, looking for ways to grab your cash and run.
avoid at all costs, spend a few more bucks up front and avoid IPOWER, in the long run they will be more expensive then others out there…
    summed up, RIP OFF.

Don’t go with them! I have a lot of history with them (since 2000), and it’s not going to be easy but I’m moving to other hosting provider.

Tech Support in India. Call center is in India. They are not qualified for the job. If you have ever seen movie called “Outsourced”, that’s about them…

If you carry about quality and performance- look somewhere else.
