ThinkHost Reviews

Founded in 1999, ThinkHost has set two simple goals- to provide affordable an reliable web hosting solutions and to operate 100% on renewable energy (solar and wind). While they don’t actually own enough solar and wind generating equipment, the company’s approach is truly fascinating and inspiring. You can read the entire story about how they became “green” on their website. The end result is that for X kilowatt of energy used a X kilowatt of green energy is being fed into the gird- in ThinkHost’s case it is the Portland’s grid. The end result is that they pay extra on their electric bill to ensure that certain amount of renewable energy is being fed into the grid. At the same time the web host is able to offer a very competitive price on their web hosting plan- the most important side as far as this website is concerned.

Thinkhost is not a good webhosting company – they are not reliable and won’t return your money once you figured out that their service is not good.

Deciding to switch to green hosting I fell for the Thinkhost pitch and signed on for three years. Boy was I sorry I did. I really wanted to be happy about my decision but from the beginning this service was not good. I tried to pretend it was OK but eventually my employees and customers forced me to admit that my web presence just sucked. Load times were long and all too often my site and mail server would go offline for 5 – 20 minute periods. A difficult issue to press with customer service as “well it’s on now” was the end of them looking for a problem. The only reason I rated them above horrible is that they were polite about it while they wasted my time. I lost $150 to switch service as there was no refund from Thinkhost. Guess why.. and spend your money elsewhere.

STAY AWAY FROM THINKHOST!!!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!!!
Boy, how I wish I had read some of the reviews for Thinkhost out there
before being ripped off… I wanted a socially responsible, green company
to host my sites and found Thinkhost. I signed up for an account and quickly realized it was not a good company when their admin panel turned out to be so
unfriendly. I couldn’t even set up a database without submitting a
ticket for tech support! And their support email is “no-reply@thinkhost.com,” so you know what that means…

I immediately requested a cancellation and they never sent me an email
acknowledging the cancellation to the email address I had
posted as my email address. When I finally contacted them through their email form (they do not have a phone number on their web site), they claimed they would not refund charges because they sent me an email in their “internal email system” with the cancellation form I needed to fill out, and that it was past their money-back trial period. I had signed up for a whole year! Of course, this is an email I would never get unless I went looking for it somewhere in the hostingoperations.com support site… Of course, I do get their newsletters to the email address supposedly in their “internal system.”

Stay away from Thinkhost! They are not socially responsible, and they will rip you off. I am not the only one they’ve done this to. I find more and more bad reviews about them. They always have an excuse not to refund charges. I am fighting this through my credit card service.
