This is my horrible experience with Yahoo yesterday.

I’ve been using a Yahoo! Small Business for the past 3 years to sell items on the internet with my company. Since international orders are flowing in, we heavily rely on their small business mailbox. Last month, I got a problem with my other yahoo domain. They charge me for the renewal of the cancelled service. I disputed that charges because I gave them enough time and notice (and they confirmed it via email) to cancel the service. I write them twice using the yahoo callback form but we got no answer. I followed them up, but still no answer. I cannot call their toll free hotline because we are in the Philippines and we dont have access to it.

So, realizing that Yahoo will never replied to our complain, I call my bank yesterday for a charge back. Yesterday evening, my staff called me informing me that they cannot log in to our yahoo account. Yahoo cancelled all our service in response to the charge back!

They put us on hostage. I called my friend in the US to help us call Yahoo’s toll free to resolve the problem. After discussion and charging my card again, they reactive the account.

The worst part is, upon reactivation, our mailbox content is gone! Three years of business mail, sales lead, important email are gone and Yahoo cannot return it back!

Because of this, I’m out of Yahoo for good. We will transfer all our services to other provider. I reactive our account for three months just to facilitate the smooth transfer of our domain to other provider (like a local web hosting).

I cant believe my life a company like Yahoo cancel the service just like that. A charge back transaction can be disputed back with a bank and that is what I expect from them. But NO! they just decide to bully you.

If we are based in the US, we will file a lawsuit against them for losing our valuable mails. But for now, our only option it to move out of Yahoo.

So, I warn everybody to check your provider and their TOS. If the TOS is saying that you cant do anything if they wish to do this and that, then stay away from them. Yahoo is a terrible company.

    Dear Friends,
Same thing happend to me. I baught 5 domain names from them and only one was being hosted by them. But they increased the annual price from 9 dollar to 34 dollars by just sending me one email And there is not contact email but a number which is never attended. I made them hours of calls from Pakistan but they never attended. I changed my card details on my billing info so that they cannot chanrge it but they used my card details from the hosting domain and charged thes 4 domain name renewals without my permission.I am astonished how big fraud they are. This is so sad that, they are indeed white collar criminals but who can stop them and how can we stop them. I am so angry I am cancelling all the services from them and writing my card people not to entertain any charge from Yahoo in the future.

I just saw the $34.95 posting to my bank account. No one to call, cuz none of the Yahoo sites have a number for Yahoo Small business, nor to they have a help screen of any significance. What I have gleaned from sites such as this is DO NOT USE YAHOO! SMALL BUSINESS unless you have hours and $34.95 to burn. btw it starts out at 9.95….funny how that happens!

I don’t even remember what my domain name was or if I even had one. The only service I used was the upgraded email for $19.95 a year. You can bet your bippies, I’m canceling that too!

    Older and Wiser

Yahoo! Small Business is not as bad as you guys make it out to be. Well I guess it is only a little better than many free services yet they charge a lot but they’re still not that bad. I wouldn’t recommend it, but if someone already has an account I wouldn’t advice switching to another service.

My partners chose Yahoo hosting. I was a little skeptical. It turns out I was right. Yahoo has been a disapointment.

Yahoo seems aimed at the most basic users at the expense of flexiblility of more advanced users. On the surface this may seem advantageous for new users but there is some basic functionality which is missing. For example. They claim to automatically install wordpress for blogging. The problem is they install an older version. The do a very poor job of keeping up to date with wordpress versions. This is a real security issue and afffects newbies and experienced bloggers alike.

There seems to be a problem with their wordpress installs, Links to Pages do not work. (links to posts work fine). You cannot install a blog on your home page it is is a directory http://www.domain.com/blog. There is no way to get it into asimply http://www.domian.com without the blog sub directory.

There are other technical issue like being unable to access the htacesss file. Many other review I read seem to concur that their support is pathetic.

I also wrote a review of Blue host on this site. I can say that blue host is substatially better in both features and online documentation. I am relatively new and not particularly technical but I find Yahoo hard to figure out. Blue host by comparison I have been able to figure out pretty much everything I need to know.

One positive I often hear about Yahoo is your site is never down. However I have never had a problem with Blue Host that I have perceived. I plan on moving my site at yahoo over to bluehost.

Yahoo Webhosting is pathetic. Save your money and your grey hairs. I am frankly shocked. I signed up a week ago, (ottoschick.org), tried their setup software over 50 times, can’t get it to work, called their Webhosting Tech Support over 40 times (Tel. 866-800-8092) and each time is says the hold time is 30 minutes or more, even at 2am. I’ve waited some times up to 55 minutes and gave up. Try it yourself. The one rep I reached told me it was my computers fault, or maybe my Virus software. Right. So they’ve charged me, I don’t have a website, and i can’t reach anyone to solve it. Atrocious ! I also will be going to my credit card company to seek a refund. Truly pathetic and so very unexpected. otto

Yahoo’s customer service is even worse than their tech support. I was told they were the most reliable hosting company available. After 4 hours of dealing with Tech support people who could barely speak english, it was finally determined that my website which had been designed for Unix would not be compatible with their windows servers without an entire redesign. I canceled the service the day I signed up, but yahoo billed me anyway. After 5 months, I noticed the erroneous charges and spent 40 minutes on the phone with billing. The guy was nice and said it would be credited. Unfortunately, Yahoo will only credit 2 months as it took me 5 months to notice it and their policy is to only credit a max of 2 months, plus I am told that I had active service at least that is what I think the non-english speaking supervisor said. Now I have to go through my credit card company to get the charges removed. Between their out-sourcing and lack of responsibility, I can only hope that their business practices catch up with them and I never hear the name Yahoo again.

Yahoo is the worst hosting company. Their tech support reps are extremely NOT knowledgeable. And a lot of features are working only in the first 2 weeks of registration and without notification, suddenly it stopped working. Called the tech support 30 times (seriously) within 2 weeks, and all they can do is transfer me back and forth. One time I ended up in Yahoo! Personals (hmmm, isn’t that the dating site??? how does that have anything to do with Yahoo Hosting?!). Then, I was having problem with their SSL server. So first reply from an email they sent is that ‘we don’t support advance scripting’. Helloo, I know that, but everything was working fine for 2 weeks, how can it just stopped working when I didn’t even change anything in my files. Then second reply, Yahoo said ‘yes you are correct, it is the problem with the ssl server’ and that’s it, no solution given. Third reply, they just gave me an email template that has nothing to do whatsoever with my issue.

I can’t believe a company such as Yahoo can have a lot of stupid tech support reps!

Yahoo has configured its CGI so there is no cgi=bin… the CGI scripts sit in WWW document space. Also, directory listing is enabled and cannot be switched off. This is not a serious hosting configuration.

I am very happy with Yahoo! Small Business web hosting. While not one of the least expensive provider, it is probably of of the most reliable ones. For the last six month of hosting our website with them we had 0 downtime. If you are have an online store downtime can cost you in revenue. Thumb up for Yahoo! Hosting!!!
