I’ve used 1&1 since 2005 and have not had any major problems.

I am interested in Robin’s statement: “you can’t use MYSQL if you plan to monetize your wordpress blogs.” Where does 1&1 state that?
1&1 offers some kind of disappointing “WordPress Light Blog” but it is possible to install the full WordPress on your MYSQL. I’m not that great at doing WordPress installations, I had a Facebook friend help me out — the reason why my blog is not up is I am trying to decide upon a unique look and have not done so yet.

    I miss Fantastico.

One thing I don’t like it that 1&1 has a weird way of calculating the disk space used.

1&1 Support is pretty good: if you contact them via their web form or via the phone they try to solve your problem as quickly as possible.

    I think 1&1 is a great & inexpensive registrar.

Overall I am satisfied with 1&1 — they are very steady and reliable. I also enjoyed the CD filled with different programs they sent me when I initially joined 1&1.

To be honest 1 & 1 has the best website builder I have ever seen on the web, but they lack fore-sight. Sub-domains are limited to 100, and you can’t use MYSQL if you plan to monetize your wordpress blogs. They clearly tell you websites with ad clicks are NOT allowed.
Needless to say, I no longer host with them. Rob.

I like how there’s 24/7 support so I don’t have to worry about time zones while calling. Also there was never too much of downtime. But yeah the agreement they make you sign is weird. “you can’t file a class action lawsuit”. What the hell?

1and1 was alright feature/price as long as there were no problems, a routine tech supp call was ok. But then I find they are crooks the hard way. Whats the point of having good features for the price if the company is not trustworthy, crooks, shares you personal information or has unacceptable business practices? Its moot. And they dont advertize it either of course, in fact you cant know about it until YOU get scammed or check them out with a consumer protection agency.

1and1 (US) is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, is rated F (worst of the worst) and has hundreds of registered complaints last year alone. Avoid!

And check whichever hosting company you are considering with the BBB, consumer protection agency or equivalent in your region. Some are horrible others are ok. You will not find this info on typical ‘top 10 review’ sites either.

    Truly an awful service.

Beginning with the agreement statement when you sign up that says you can’t file a class action lawsuit. Why would you want to if they deliver quality service?

Customer service is abyssmal with help like ‘your nameservers have changed and your website will be deleted on such and such a date’

    Rates are very high.

Downtime is the worst problem and there have been several long outages. Their response ‘As you are probably aware, 1&1 experienced a major problem with the server your website is hosted on in the last few days…” and a small refund.

That is why i have hosted my blog on another canadian web hosting because these companies seem not to provide the quality but rather concentrate on quantity!

Of course they provide quality services to the customers and that too it is based on the requirement of the customer. And accourding to me the work is very much satisfactory.

I have heard that it is not as good as it seems. That is why i have hosted my blog on another canadian web hosting because these companies seem not to provide the quality but rather concentrate on quantity!

I have seven domains hosted at 1 and 1, some on Windows and some on Linux. They’re the fifth or sixth hosting company I’ve used and I think they are by far the best. 24×7 phone support is a requirement for me and their support is very good. Some hosts won’t help you with third party CGI scripts, but 1 and 1 did for me. They allow shell access, which many don’t. Their control panel offers a bunch of nice features. The only trouble I found was that the server path was not quite intuitive at first. All in all, a very solid hosting company.
