Ray – I’m glad to see that you have all that ample time to keep up with technology.

My issue is that I purchased my program back in 2002 and have no knowledge of how to change or update the scripts. I have it hosted on EASYCGI and I try to rely on TECH SUPPORT to guide me when such a problem arises. However, TECH SUPPORT was not able to solve it, it was MY RESEARCH that found what the issues were! Now TECH SUPPORT would like me to tell them what the problem was so they can update their records! Sorry – they should know what my problems were – that is why they are TECH SUPPORT and get paid and I am Joe Blow losing business because of them.

So the purpose of this site is for users to review EASYCGI – and our reviews reflect our experiences with TECH SUPPORT and we all feel that the TECH SUPPORT team at EASY CGI is poor. They all lack knowledge of the new platform. They lack quick response times while our sites are down for days even weeks. We do not what to hear a TECHNICIAN will be with you in 24 – 48 hours. They are a totally lost and inept team. Every person here agrees that EASYCGI was great up until the migration.

EASY CGI could have informed many of us, prior to the migration, that certain scripts would not be recognized and need to be changed, to meet the requirements of the new platform – but we were told “your site should not experience any issues during the migration process, but leave some time to test you site once the migration has taken place.” Did you see they tell us, “that our site should not experience any issues?” Obviously they were severely wrong!

So while my site is now lightning fast and runs flawlessly on EASYCGI’s new platform, I no longer want to deal with there poor TECH SUPPORT team and have begun moving my site to a new host. So Ray, you can rest assured that I will be taking my ‘OLD CRAPPY SCRIPTS” off EASYCGI’s platform.

Finally Ray – I do ask that while you continue to keep up with technology, maybe revisit First Grade Grammar and learn the difference between there and their and the correct usage.

Scripts have been working fine for 3 years, processed over 20,000 transaction, then all of a sudden, up, doen, up, down and very poor, and I mean very poor support, just wait, wait wait, I fixed it the first 2 times, then the third time all it required is looking at the server ( I can not do this) event viewer between 12:39 11/11 and 1:15, when I discovered it. Once I got someone to LISTEN to me on that, it was fixed in about 2 hours.
very poor service, Help line is out of the country now

  • Ray Akers Nov 17, 2008, 10:54 am

Man its very funny to see people complain about this, only true reasons why your websites fail is because more then likely your scripts suck, I on the other hand make sure I move up with technology and when they upgraded there servers, im glad I am getting more for my money, please leave the servers so your old crappy scripts do not ruin the resources.

Doug Rice called in on this issue after submitting the ticket. Attempted to check the scripting on the EventDetail.aspx page, but could not locate anything that pointed to the configuration of the website in regards to the databases.

Checked each of the databases within the user’s MySQL, saw the tables and listings established in there.

Attempted to get more information from the user, but after picking the line back up got silence on the other end before the user hung up.

If you have ever received an error message on a .Net application that simply stated “Server Application Unavailable” you might find this useful.

When you receive this error, make sure to check the event viewer on the server. This is found under administrative tools. Under the application event log, you will likely find an error that states: “It is not possible to run two different versions of ASP.NET in the same IIS process. Please use the IIS Administration tool to run the application in a separate process.”

An application pool is a process that responds to web requests under IIS. An application pool does not have a setting for what type of ASP.Net applications will be run in it. Instead, it loads the appropriate libraries when an ASP.Net application is loaded in the process. Because the libraries for ASP.Net 1.1 and ASP.Net 2.0 are similar, but not the same, the application pool cannot respond to requests for both types of applications at the same time. This can cause sporadic behaviour if you are using the server at the same time as another developer and you have applications using different versions of the framework in the same application pool.

Make sure that on your server there is an application pool dedicated to ASP.Net 2.0 applications and one for ASP.Net 1.1 applications. When you add an ASP.Net application to the server, make sure you select the right application pool for it.

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the “Refresh” button in your web browser to retry your request.
    Solution

This can happen for several reasons. An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Open the Event Viewer and see the error message reported. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error.

If the error message reported is:

Aspnet_wp.exe could not be launched because the username and/or password supplied in the processModel section of the config file are invalid.

Then the most likely causes are:

    1.

Microsoft .NET Framework is no longer registered correctly.
    2.

The Microsoft Internet Information Server memory is corrupted.
    3.

The ASP.NET user no longer has access to the Microsoft .NET Framework folder, the application folder, or the Temporary Files folder.
    4.

You have recently applied a security patch to IIS.
    5.

Your system is a domain controller.
    6.

(Advanced) The processModel section of the Machine.config file does not specify AutoGenerate for the password.

If you continue to have problems, please see the Additional Resources section below.

    Solution?

Try reinstalling ASP.NET (2.0.50727) to refresh the ASP.NET settings, config, metabase and security/worker accounts on the local machine:

    1. Open a command prompt and….
    2. Stop IIS: iisreset /stop
    3. Change to the .NET Framework 2.0 root directory: C:\windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727\
    4. Reinstall ASP.NET 2.0 by using the following command: aspnet_regiis -i
    5. Start IIS again: iisreset /start
    6. Try to access your web page again.

Note: there are many other fabulous options available to refresh your IIS settings… just give aspnet_regiis /? a run!

The web leads me far astray. I did not have anything in the event log.

The solution? Give MACHINE/ASPNET permission to my project. I found this a LOT faster by switching to .NET 1.1 in IIS, and that gave a much more useful error message. I guess “Server Application Unavailable” is .NET 2’s way of crapping its pants.

I solved my problem with EASYCGI – but it was ME who figured it out, not their tech support. The only way I could have figured out the issue was I was moving my site to a new host, the error message returned what the exact problem was. So, I fixed my problem on Easy CGI and now the site works beautifully! However, I will not tell them what the fix is, as they did nothing helping me fix the site, so they can go and figure it out for themselves. After the 15 of November, I will be free of EasyCGI and look forward to using my new host.

As others have said, this migration has been an absolute nightmare. I’ve been with EasyCGI for nearly 7 years now with multiple sites. For 6 1/2 years, they were great. Now, they have completely fallen apart. Examples:

    1. All of our FTP accounts (we have 1 for each customer) have been opened up to the ENTIRE site (rather than the directory that the customer should only have access to).

    2. The tools that we had used to upload files (these were ones that EasyCGI supported … ASPUpload) now suddenly don’t work. They “path” has been changed. Simple enough except that nobody at EasyCGI can tell us the new path. We spent about 8 hours on phone calls / Live Chat to receive no answer there.

    3. The form mailer that they supported (ASPEmail) no longer works. Again, redesign.

    4. Their support went from being OK to being horrific. If you call in, you’ll be placed on hold for about 20 minutes at which point you’ll have to leave a message. Leaving a message apparently goes into a black hole as we have NEVER received a call back (and we’ve probably left close to a dozen messages now).

    5. The LIVE chat support personnel create all sorts of frustrations as well as these folks must be new to a computer and English. After challenging you with “sign up with a security question”, they can’t even see it. Last Friday, I created a security question 3 times. Each request was as though we had just started chatting. After 4 hours of non-sense like “please give me a couple of minutes to research your issue”, they told me it would be escalated. Obviously, that is their way to drop the chat. I’ve never received a response.

    6. We have been double and tripple billed. They said its because of the way the new plan is set up. That doesn’t make any sense, but that is their excuse.

    7. Our site will completely go down with no warning. And, its down for days, not minutes.

So, I am now faced with moving all of our sites which is a tremendous task. But, we simply can’t attempt to conduct business like this any further.

I’ve been with EasyCgi for 3 years and have been very happy with them. Up until they decided to migrate to a new platform. Now I’m in some sort of migration Limbo where half my stuff is on the old platform and half is on the new platform and somehow they think I only have 1 Sql database instead of the 3 that I have. I’m looking for another provider. I no longer trust them to keep my site running.

  • Russ Klepper Nov 2, 2008, 10:36 am

2 Happy years at Easy CGI. Most miserable month every in October. The team at EasyCGI decided to migrate everyone’s sites to a new platform. Unfortunately many sites have crashed. Their tech support is not able to fix these crashed sites. I tried to point them towards my problems but there is no communication or team effort to resolve these issues, just copy and paste responses every 24 to 48 hours. Nothing getting resolved. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND SHOPPING ALL THE OTHER HOSTING COMPANIES BEFORE GIVING EASY CGI YOUR BUSINESS!

  • Katherine Wells Oct 16, 2008, 12:52 pm

I’m trying to be kind to EasyCGI, they’ve had a lot of problems this year (2008). I’m trying to be but I’m damned if I’m going to be.

To say EasyCGI are bad would be a compliment to them. They really are the worst hosting company it’s ever been my misfortune to deal with.

Imagine you own a commercial website which is your income. Then imagine your site is down for four days per month and customers can’t access your site at all.

Then imagine the following month, the site is down for six days.

This has been going on throughout the year. At the time of writing this reveiw, it’s October 16th. Our website has been down nine seperate times in sixteen days. That’s NINE times the entire site was down in sixteen days.

If you’re thinking of signing up with EasyCGI, please re-read this review first and reconsider. I cannot put into words how awful this company really is.
