The Gate is the worst hosting company. I have worked with a few hosting companies and have never dealt with as many technical issues as with this company. NEVER, and I say NEVER consider going with this company. Their tech support is lax and for what you pay, you get a lot more with other companies.

Signed up in 2007, only use it for web, I handle the email myself. Only ever had 2 or 3 outages that lasted a short enough time to not be worried about.

They upgraded my account, and deleted all ftp accesses that where setup. Also during the upgrade they changed the ip address of the webhost, and didn’t send me the notification till after the fact.

The ip change notification also came from a completely different company therefore was discarded as a phishing attempt, cause it didn’t come from gate.com like all previous correspondense.

This is the worst “American” company I have ever dealt with. I don’t know who does their customer support hiring, but they are the worst group of people I have ever spoken with.

There must be a good market for dumb people who will pay anything for web hosting. Customer support is non-existent and they have extreme holding times on the phone. The servers are down about 10% of the service time.

I used their dedicated services, which was a joke.

    Avoid with all your power!

The same happen to me autorenew without authorization for three times the normal domain cost. If you’re stupid enough go and oversee all bad reviews is your fault. I’m our of there forever and ever…

Stay AWAY!! Since the Hostway buyout Gate.com has gone right down the tubes. Long wait times trying to reach customer service. Dropped calls. Constant outages. Terribly unfriendly service people. Just stay away! You have been warned.

Had winsave for many years with not problems. As soon as Gate took over everything went to hell. Multiple logins, slow servers, crappy migration, broken frontpage extensions.

Opened tickets by email and got no response whatsoever. Opened tickets over the phone (their call center is in Bulgaria, so good luck) and got no response.

Two weeks ago, my business site was defaced by Brazillian hackers. Still no resposne. These servers are not safe. I’m pulling all four of my sites from gate.

    Scam and a half.

The worst service I ever had on the entire Internet.
They took the money from my credit card even if I didn’t want to subscribe for another year.
Stay away from gate.com, for sure they will fail veru soon and that’s what i wish for those people

This is the worse web registrar I’ve ever dealt with. They purchased my old domain company and as a result I had to deal with them. I SHOULD have transferred my domain as soon as I transferred my hosting with them but I didn’t. As a result, they sent 1 email telling me that it was time to renew (which probably went into junk mail, if they sent it at all) and so my domain expired. Now I have to pay $100 to redeem the domain since it’s in the redemption period, which is ROBBERY! Customer service stinks, each CR rep told me a different thing. It’s such a shame. I’m surprised they’re still in business!

I manage a website for a non-profit organization that helps saves lives. Our site was previously hosted by WinSave with no issues or concerns. After Gate bought them out, we’ve had consistent problems with web, FTP and email services.

It all started when they prematurely migrated our e-mail service (from WinSave’s old e-mail service). They said they would have Level 2 consult with me first. But nope, they upgraded before I had a chance to change our nameservers. This took down our mail service for a few days. Plus they provided no warning that all the email mailboxes and aliases would be deleted during the upgrade. So I had to rebuild everything from scratch.

Apparently during the email upgrade, they also upgraded our hosting plan according to 1 of the dozens of Level 1 Support Staff I have been on the phone with for the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately, I then started to have problems with the FTP service. That was on 4/2/09. It’s now 4/15/09 still with no FTP service.

While doing some digging around on my end, something or someone deleted a couple of DNS records for web and mail. I have gotten no follow-up calls and the only emails that I have received for my ongoing ticket was to apologize and that someone from Level 2 Support would look into the issue. Bull!!! When I called last week, my ticket had been in their queue for a week and no one from Level 2 was looking into anything; this was confirmed by the rep I was on the phone with.

Unfortunately, because of the bureaucracy of being part of any organization, I just can’t up and move to a new web hosting company right away. But this is the final week. If things aren’t up this week, I’ll take the consequence of taking actions into my own hands.

I’ve worked in the web hosting industry before and have come across issues as a Tech Support Rep and as a Sys Admin. But this amount of downtime is absolutely unacceptable even if this is just a fluke event.

    Poor Customer Service
    Poor Follow Through Skills
    Poor Communication

Best of luck in your web hosting search…
